Some relationships come so easily and are so healthy and affirming, while with others, we struggle to connect. Maybe we aren’t in a state of open hostility, but affection and love are hard to give and receive. I came to think what causes difficult relationships? Different points of view. Competition. Bad first impressions. Inability to communicate effectively. The nanny of my daughter confided me about her concerns to the family she’s currently working. She’s having a difficulty on how to adjust and accept the situation of having a new member in the family. I can’t blame her for she’s loyal to me. “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”. Being the nanny of my children I cared for her. I know if not for me and for my kids she wants to give up and leave the house. Sometimes she can’t bear the demand of her boss to treat the new member (her boss girlfriend) like the way she treated me. I understand her feelings. Respect have to be earn not to give it freely to a stranger. We all have our own minds and feelings no one can dictate us what to do as long as we know that we do the right thing for our own good and for others as well. We don’t need to please everybody. To serve is beautiful, but only if it is done with joy and a whole heart and a free mind.

The colossal misunderstanding of our time is the assumption that insight will work with people who are unmotivated to change. Communication does not depend on syntax, or eloquence, or rhetoric, or articulation but on the emotional context in which the message is being heard. People can only hear you when they are moving toward you, and they are not likely to when your words are pursuing them. Even the choices words lose their power when they are used to overpower. Attitudes are the real figures of speech. – by Edwin Friedman
